Exterior Siding Installation and Summer Heat

Summer is a great time for a DIY siding installation project. The days are longer, temperatures are warm, and it's nice to get outside after hibernating all winter. But, siding contractors know summer heat can be dangerous. The best way to beat the summer heat is to acclimatize yourself over time. Unfortunately, this isn't always an option when you tackle a DIY siding project. So, here are a few other tips to stay safe.

Your Summer Exterior Siding Installation and Sun Protection

Unless you work outdoors on a regular basis, starting a DIY summer exterior siding installation can be a real shock to your system. No matter how often you go to the air conditioned health club, if you're not used to manual labor in the summer heat, you need to be careful.

Siding contractors usually adjust their work schedules during the hot summer months to start earlier every day. It's not unusual to see contractors installing siding at 6:00 AM during the summer and leaving shortly after lunch when the heat kicks in. If you schedule your exterior siding installation project for July or August, you may want to keep the same summer hours as professional siding contractors.

Here are a few other beat the summer heat tips when working outside:

  • Wear a hat to keep the sun off of your head
  • Pace yourself, especially if you're not used to heavy labor
  • Take lots of breaks in the shade
  • Drink lots of water to stay hydrated
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Many construction crews work during the hot summer months--so can you, if you remember these tips for summer heat safety during your exterior siding installation.
