What Can You Expect to Pay for a Vinyl Siding Job?

When considering vinyl siding for your home, you may want to first get a rough idea of estimated vinyl siding costs. Just knowing the square footage is not enough; the cost of the job will depend on many factors, including the style of siding you choose.

As a general rule, you can multiply the square footage of your project by between $3- $7, the estimated vinyl siding costs. If you are planning a bare-bones project, you'll be on the lower side of the range. If you want a specialty color, texture, and detailing, you will be on the higher side of the range. Once you have a rough estimate, you can start calculating the extras.

Estimating Vinyl Siding Costs

Here are the costs you will need to take into consideration:

  • You or your contractor will need to get a building permit. Expect to pay between $100 to $200.
  • You will need to have the old siding removed (if your project is a remodel). This means you'll require a crew and rental of a garbage container. Cost is $1,000 to $1,200.
  • If you choose moderately priced siding--about $5 per square foot--and your project is about 2,000 square feet, you would spend about $10,000 on siding (installed, with insulation).
  • Along with the siding pieces, you will need installation and detailing pieces: J-channels, starter strips, corners, finish strips, outlets/vents, shutters, and nails. You can expect to spend on these an additional $1,000 to $1,200.

The total for this sample job would be between $12,100 and $12,600. If you want to get an accurate idea of estimated vinyl siding costs for your home, make sure it's done on-site.
